Hip clothing for the littlest hipsters
Genius Jones features a mix of children's fashion,
furniture and toys for parents looking for an alternative
to mainstream children's products. A Levi's vintage
mini-skirt. A Keith Haring-printed domino set. A
dollhouse-sized art collection with miniature printed
works by contemporary artists like Cindy Sherman
and Laurie Simmons.
Not what you'd find in you average children's store,
right?
But Genius Jones, the hip
children's boutique that stands one block away
from Lincoln Road, is anything but ordinary. "We're trying to be a modern approach
to a children's store," says Daniel Kron, who
owns the shop with his wife, Geane Brito. The store
specializes in products for newborns to 6-year-olds
and sells everything from yoga clothing for toddlers
to kid-sized contemporary furniture, special diaper
bags for dads and artsy toys.
Kron, a former fashion photographer, and Brito,
a former model, moved from New York to Miami in 2000.
After they moved, 3-year-old Isadora and 1-year-old
Magnus were born. As parents of young children, they
noticed a lack of hip children's stores where they
would shop themselves, so they opened Genius Jones
in January. |
