Design Matters So Young, So Modern

DESCENDANTS OF DESIGN As a father of two, Daniel Kron can speak the language of baby. As a partisan of great design, he's made sure the philosophy of his children's boutique, Genius Jones, stems from an intelligent aesthetic. "We were really the first of our kind in the country," he says of the growing company he and his wife Geane Brito founded. His shops are located on Michigan Avenue in South Beach and in the Design District; soon, a third will open in Boca Raton's Mizner Park. In addition, Genius Jones has a thriving internet business.
The 2,000-square-foot Design District space is brimming with in-demand designer goods from ducduc, Netto and Marimekko. It was one of the first five retailers in America to sell the Bugaboo stroller, now used by so many famous tykes that it's practically a celebrity on its own. And what babe can resist her own pair of mini True Religion jeans? But amidst all the designer label hoo-ha, one has to ask himself, is it really about children? "Kids don't know what's best for them," he says. "So our target consumer is someone passionate about design. But yes, the focus is always on children." Very chic children, that is. Just don't be surprised when the little one's first words are "Harry Bertoia."
