In 1939, when Holger Nielsen designed the first Vipp pedal bin, he had no idea of the success that would follow.
Nielsen, a metal spinner from the Danish town of Randers, designed the Vipp pedal bin for his wife Marie's hairdressing salon. Customers at the hairdressing salon loved the pedal bin, and soon they were ordering similar bins for their husbands' medical practices and dental clinics. After a few years, Holger decided to start production on a larger scale.
The pedal bin, which has remained unchanged since Holger's days, is now a decorative feature in homes and companies throughout the world, and Holger's gift to Marie has thus become an international design icon.
All Vipp pedal bins incorporate an interior rubber ring that helps seal in odors, making the Vipp especially well-suited for use in a baby nursery, bathroom or kitchen. The removable metal rubbish container allows the disposable bin liner to be completely hidden from view when the lid is closed.
